Today is the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost. (Pentecost is dedicated to the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the
fiftieth day after the Resurrection of Christ). The color is GREEN. Green symbolizes the renewal of vegetation and generally of living
things and the promise of new life. We use WHITE on the fourth Sundays here at Riverview for Communion.

Thankfulness

Psalm 100 Is one of the great songs of thanksgiving In the
Bible. It calls us to realize that we belong to God our Maker, and
to praise Him for His goodness, mercy and truth. Verse 2 tells us:
"Serve the Lord with gladness" Sometimes our service may be
performed through duty rather than willingness and happiness.
True thankfulness Is more than being ~rateful for what we
possess; It Is an attitude that permeates our relationship with the
Lord so we· may serve Him with gladness and joy

Thankfulness Is Important to God. No matter what others do,
we as followers of Christ have the privilege and responsibility to
extend the spirit of thankfulness to every day of the year. We
must do everything "In the name of the Lord Jesus, giving the
thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3:17)

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln established a national
holiday In the United States as "a day of thanksgiving and praise
to our beneficent Father." Lincoln's proclamation also declared
that all our blessings "are the gracious gifts of the Most High God,
who, while dealing with us In anger for our sins, hath nevertheless
remembered mercy." Thanksgiving Is a fitting day to express
gratitude to God but, so Is tomorrow and every day that follows.

Remember:
• The joy of living comes from a heart of thanksgiving.
• Faith flourishes In the garden of gratitude.
• For the Christian, thanksgiving Is not just a day but
a way of life.
• Count your many blessings and you'll soon lose
count.
Pray dally at 12 noon that we will always strive to have an attitude of
gratitude.
